What is a Smart Banner notification?
A Smart Banner is a small notification that appears on the top portion of the display when using the Safari browser on an iPad.
The Smart Banner notification indicates that an App is available or installed which correlates with the digital edition.
What is the purpose of a Smart Banner?
The notification is intended to inform a reader or user that there is an associated native App in the App Store which coincides with the browser based digital edition that is being accessed.
How does it work?
Behind the scenes the Safari browser communicates the availabilty of an App within the App Store. The end result is the Smart Banner notification.
If an iPad user accesses a digital edition via the Safari browser and the App HAS NOT been installed on the device a 'View' message will display in the Smart Banner with the thumbnail image of the App and the App details.
If an iPad user accesses a digital edition via the Safari browser and the App HAS been installed on the device an 'Open' message will display in the Smart Banner with the thumbnail image of the App and the App details.
Currently the Smart Banner notification is available for iPad only. In the future this feature may be rolled out to iPhone units as well.
